“The transparent process put my parents completely at ease.”
From a Tokyo language school to Waseda University
Mai Tran — now a second-year student at Waseda University, Tokyo.
When Mai Tran first walked into our office, she could barely introduce herself in Japanese. What she had instead was a clear goal: to study at a top university in Tokyo. "I knew where I wanted to end up," she remembers, "but I had no idea how to get there."
A first step that felt safe
Rather than rushing toward university applications, we mapped a two-stage pathway. Mai would begin at a trusted Tokyo language school to build fluency and adjust to life in Japan, then apply to university with the language and confidence she needed.
The roadmap made an overwhelming decision feel simple. Every milestone was explained in advance, so I could focus on studying instead of paperwork.
Her parents, understandably cautious about sending their daughter abroad, joined every planning call. "The transparency is what won them over," Mai says. "They could see exactly what was happening at each stage."
From N5 to a university seat
Within ten months, Mai had progressed from absolute beginner to JLPT N3. With our guidance on essays, document preparation, and interview practice, she applied to three universities — and was accepted to her first choice, Waseda.
Today, Mai is a second-year student studying international relations, working part-time at a campus café, and mentoring new arrivals who are just as nervous as she once was.
Her advice to others
"Don't wait until you feel ready," she says. "You build the confidence by starting. Find people who will walk the path with you — that made all the difference for me."
